The need for each person to have an entry ticket (wristband) was introduced by the City Council of Bunol in 2013. This is due to the massive growth of the numbers wanting to attend the festival. In 2012 it was estimated that there was 50,000 people there. We were there and it certainly felt like it and it was dangerous with that volume of people. After the event that year the Council engaged some experts who came up with the magic number of 20,000 people. This is the safe number of people to have in the street for the tomato fight.

So, since 2013 there has only been 20,000 entry tickets available so as to avoid a crush and other dangers on the town's small streets. Only people with the entry ticket (wrist band) will be allowed into Bunol on that day. PP Travel has secured limited number of entry passes and these are included in the cost of all our La Tomatina tour packages.

The result of the controlled numbers made the La Tomatina experience so much better than prior to 2013. It is far safer, less crowded and more fun. For La Tomatina you must ensure you book with an approved travel company, like PP Travel, who will supply your entry wristband. Without this, you can not enter Bunol and enjoy this world famous tomato fight.Close

There are several ways to get to Valencia. The easiest, by far, is to fly in. Availability (if booked reasonably early) to Valencia is good and flights are quite competitive. Easyjet fly from London Stansted, London Gatwick and Bristol. Ryanair fly from London Stansted, Liverpool, East Midlands and Dublin. British Airways and Iberia fly from London Heathrow. Another cheap option is to fly into Alicante, which is less than two hours south via train or car. Hire cars very inexpensive and flights into Alicante are normally economical.

With Valencia only 3.5 hours (train or car) from both Madrid and Barcelona and with La Tomatina being mid-week many take the opportunity for a longer holiday choosing to fly into either Madrid or Barcelona for a few days before making their way to Valencia via bus, train or hire car. Then after La Tomatina head back to the other of Madrid or Barcelona for a few days before heading home.

Before you depart, make sure you have your passport. The weather should be hot and sunny, so bring your swimming attire, towel, and sun cream. But be warned: it can get cool late at night - so also bring a light jacket or top.

For the Tomatina tomato fight in Bunol, you must first remember that whatever you wear on the day is almost certain to be thrown away. All passengers take a change of clothes with them on the coach to Bunol left under the coach to retrieve for a quick change before getting on the coach. We suggest the following: Girls should wear tight fitting sports bra or tight singlet with built in bra (which cannot be easily ripped off) and shorts, with sandals or runners. Guys you should wear cheap shorts, shirt and shoes only. Some recommend swimming goggles to protect your eyes but we do find these quickly get covered in tomato and are hard to clean. We find a better alternative is an old throwaway peak cap pulled down tight which helps deflect the onslaught of tomatoes. Girls should not wear bikinis if they plan on going into the centre, they will almost definitely be ripped off.

Again, anything you wear on the day of the tomato fight - including your foot wear - you will more than likely throw away. A number of us from PP Travel take our old worn out shoes to La Tomatina for their last wear removing them in the coach park before we head back to the hotel in Valencia.Close

We stay in Valencia for the duration of the La Tomatina tour as accommodation in Bunol is very limited. With a large amount of quality accommodation Valencia is only about 50 minutes by bus from Bunol and far more to see and do than Bunol.

The port city of Valencia lies on Spain's southeastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. Valencia is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and the third-largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, with around 800,000 inhabitants in the administrative centre. Its urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 1.6 million people. It's known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.Close

All passengers will need to carry a valid passport.

People on passports from the likes of India, South African and Zimbabwe will need a Schengen Visa from the Spanish consulates. You can see a list of countries whose citizens are required to obtain a Schengen visa in order to enter by following this link. Please organise visas well in advance, as the Spanish Embassies typically has lengthy delays.

People with Australian, New Zealand, UK and other EC passports do not require visas.

La Tomatina, like all our holidays are party tours which suit outward going, energetic young people. As is written in our booking conditions, often large quantities of alcohol are consumed. Please consider whether this is the right sort of holiday for you before you book. This should especially be considered by families if they are considering booking. There is no age restriction on our tours, but parents and guardians are urged to consider the above before booking on any children. Also we are restricted by local laws in regarding access to minors to any planned events that involves alcohol.

The crazy packed event of La Tomatina is inherently crowded and dangerous. Passengers are very likely to experience wild crazy behaviour. Naturally these events are suited for adults. As per our full booking conditions, participation is entirely at your own choice and risk. You are responsible for your own safety and well being.

We do not encourage you to engage in any dangerous activity or to drink excessively. We cannot accept responsibility if you drink too much or engage in dangerous activities and suffer injury, illness, death, loss or damage as a result. We cannot be responsible if minors are booked on any tours and are similarly injured or prevented from entry to any events involved in a tour.

The City Council of Bunol who organises the tomato fight, La Tomatina presently does not put an age restriction of those who can participate in the tomato fight. Whoever you should note that the people in the tomato fight can get pretty carried away randomly throwing tomatoes in all directions. It can, wherever you may be in the tomato fight, get pretty full on. There is no real vantage points within the tomato fight where you can just stand back and take in what is going on as a spectator. You are either in, or not.

Important Things to Remember
Do not bring bottles or hard objects as they can cause accidents and hurt other participants.
Do not rip other people's T-shirts.
You must squash the tomatoes before throwing them as this reduces the impact.
Ensure you keep a safe distance from the lorries.
As soon as you hear the second shot, you must stop throwing tomatoes.
Follow the security staff directions.

It is important that you note that the Pre La Tomatina Party and Official After Party are both held within licensed venues and entry is restricted to people 18 years of age and over. This is due to Spanish licensing laws. Sorry, but people under 18 years of age will not gain entry to these events.

Yes, off course you do. We encourage all passengers to have adequate travel insurance on all of our tours - the possibilities for injury or loss are considerable and medical costs can be extremely expensive - but we do not force you into purchasing our insurance. Remember the old saying; If you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel!Close

The City Council of Bunol who organises the tomato fight, La Tomatina welcomes participants aged at least 14 years old, but preferably 18+. People should note that the people in the tomato fight can get pretty carried away randomly throwing tomatoes in all directions. It can, wherever you may be in the tomato fight, get pretty full on. There is no real vantage points within the tomato fight where you can just stand back and take in what is going on as a spectator. You are either in, or not.

It is not recommended for the little ones due to the event's chaotic nature. However, kids can still get in on the fun with La Tomatina Infantil � aka Tomatina Kids � a special version just for them held the Saturday before the main event.

La Tomatina's Official After Party has quickly become as big as La Tomatina itself. Held at a venue at the edge of Valencia it is on the night of the tomato fight and runs from around 9pm until around 5am.

PP Travel passengers have free entry to the Official After Party as long as you arrive to the venue on the 9pm special PP hotel shuttle service.Close

You must be at the departure point no later than 7:45am.

Our usual departure point should be the same as usual on the opposite side of the road to the NH Valencia Las Ciencias 3* Hotel, Avenida Instituto Obrero 28, Valencia 46013 Spain (Google Maps - What3Words). Whilst this is the departure point we have used for many years the only reason this would change would be for some reason like the council decides closer to the time to do road works there, etc. This departure point will be confirmed to you closer to the day.

If the start to the tomato fight remains unchanged (midday) the return coach will depart Bunol at 3pm which will have you back in Valencia by around 4pm. Drop off in Valencia will be back at the same place the coaches departed from.
