# What is the history of Royal Ascot?
Every year Royal Ascot is attended by Elizabeth II and other members of the British Royal Family such as The Prince of Wales. Since 1825 the first highlight of every day is the arrival of the Royal procession at 2pm. Four horse-drawn carriages carry the Queen and guests along the seven furlong straight mile first past the Windsor Enclosure then the Queen Anne Enclosure and Royal Enclosure before traveling under the grandstand to the Parade Ring. On the Queens arrival their is the raising of the Queen's Royal Standard and the days racing can commence.
2002 saw the meet move from 4 days to 5 days to mark The Queen's Golden Jubilee. The Queen attends all 5 days of the Royal meet with guests each day including various members of the Royal family. You may see the likes of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Earl and Countess of Wessex and Princesses Eugene and Beatrice. Ascot Racecourse is situated ideally just 6 miles from Windsor Castle.
It is a major event in the British social calendar, and press coverage of the attendees and their attire often exceeds coverage of the actual racing. There are four main enclosures attended by guests on Royal Ascot week; The Royal Enclosure, The Queen Anne Enclosure, The Village and The Windsor Enclosure.
Whilst fashion and attendees is a large part of Royal Ascot it is also the most valuable race meet in Britain. In 2018 the 5 day meet saw £7.3 million in prize money. The 5 day meet usually sees 30 races with around 18 at group level of which 8 are usually the highest Group 1 races.
Historically, Ascot Racecourse redevelops every 50 years or so. In 2005, whilst Ascot was closed for its redevelopment, the Royal Meeting was staged in York, providing the city with its biggest ever sporting event. The city, region and racecourse threw themselves into the extravaganza, which saw expansion into the Knavesmire so as to accommodate circa 50,000 people each day.
Ascot's much loved tradition of "singing around the bandstand" or "community singing" began in the 1970s under the stewardship of Lady Beaumont, wife of the then Clerk of the Course, Captain Sir Nicholas Beaumont. The now unmissable sing song of British favourites and flag waving after racing was an immediate success with thousands of racegoers staying on and making it an integral part of their day. Now, traditional singing is listed as part of the day's formal proceedings in the racecard and song books and flags are handed round.
# What Royal Ascot hospitality packages does PP Travel offer?
All packages include entry ticket to the races in either the Windsor Enclosure or the Queen Anne Enclosure with upgrade options like the Silk Lawns area within the Queen Anne Enclosure.
All packages include our pre-race picnic/party zone, with lunch and drinks (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) served in the coach park area prior to you heading into the races. Lunch service is between 11am and 1pm.
Coach travel inclusive packages include return luxury coach travel between London's Victoria Coach Station and Ascot Racecourse.

Victoria Coach Station is approximately a 5 minute walk (heels dependant) from Victoria mainline and underground stations.

Inside the main door of the coach station is a departure board. You will already have a PP Travel coach number. Find your PP Travel coach number on the departure board to find from which gate your coach will depart for Royal Ascot.
Refreshments
If you arrive early for your departure Victoria Coach Station has several refreshment facilities where you can get tea, coffee, and breakfast items. Please note that most coaches will not permit hot drinks and food on the coach.
Departure Times
Thursday, Ladies Day - Gold Cup: Departure at 09:30am.
Friday, Coronation Stakes Day: Departure at 10:00am.
Saturday, Finale Day: Departure at 10:00am.
Left Luggage
Victoria Coach Station advises that they do have luggage storage facilities available. It is open daily between 08:30 and 22:00. Note that any luggage you do have can travel with you for the day under the coach.
Coaches cannot wait past their departure times so please plan to arrive at Victoria Coach Station at least 30 minutes before departure. Coaches will be there for loading 30 minutes prior to your departure time. It will not be possible to wait past the allotted departure time.
After the days racing at Royal Ascot coaches will return to Victoria Coach Station. The drop off point is opposite the coach station where you would have caught the coach in the morning.
# How long is the coach trip from Central London to Ascot Racecourse?
On arrival at Ascot, join our well-known picnic/party zone. Lunch with drinks (alcoholic and non) provided, so you are well fed and ready for a fantastic day at Royal Ascot.
For the return journey we depart Coach Park 10 (where you arrived to) at Ascot Racecourse at 7:30pm. This is about 90 minutes after the last race of the day. We aim to have you back in London near to 9:30pm but this is always dependent on traffic.
# Meeting us at Ascot Racecourse. How do you get there?
We are easy to find in Coach Park 10 (Red) (location on what3words) where we have a huge grass area for you to spread out on and enjoy your pre-races picnic style buffet lunch with drinks. On arrival to the area the lead person on your booking will be able to collect your racecourse entry tickets.

# At Royal Ascot what is the difference between the Windsor Enclosure and the Queen Anne Enclosure?
Named in honour of the racecourse's founding monarch, Royal Ascot's Queen Anne Enclosure is the epicentre of the action. Those with Queen Anne Enclosure admission enjoy uncompromised views, beautifully manicured lawns and atmospheric raised terraces to watch both the Royal Procession and the racing. Strict dress codes are in force for this area. Please note, that during the Royal meeting, your entry ticket will only give you access to the lower sections - mainly the ground floor areas, not up in the grandstand itself. This is known as the Royal enclosure during this meeting and is all reserved seating.
Windsor Enclosure
The general public area during the Royal Ascot meeting is known as the Windsor Enclosure. All our packages include entry to the Windsor. This section is along the home straight in a large lawn area stretching from the 200 metre mark (1 furlong) to the home turn, about 400 metre mark. It is 200 metres at least from the finishing post. During the Royal week, massive marquees are set up, temporary grandstands, bandstands, bars etc.It really is impressive, but not close to the finishing post.
Lunch is provided in the Coach Park 10 (Red) upon arrival for all PP passengers. As you will be allocated your entry ticket on the coach journey to Ascot, you are then free to make your own way into the course proper at your leisure after lunch.
# What food is provided in the lunch at Royal Ascot?
Drinks!
Racing at Royal Ascot on Ladies Day is not only the most fashionable day out of the year day out, it is also, a big party event - so it would certainly be amiss not to provide drinks with lunch. You have the choice of quality red or white wine with your meal - and there will be plenty provided. Along with sparkling wine you have the choice of sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, rose, merlot, shiraz, rioja as well as cider and beer. A selection of non-alcoholic drinks are also available during lunch.
# Where is lunch served for Royal Ascot?
After lunch, you are to walk from coach park 10, under the racetrack and into the Windsor or Queen Anne entrances. To the Windsor Enclosure entrance it is about 500 metres walk. For the Queen Anne, it is a further 300 metre walk past the Windsor Enclosure.
# What drinks are included with lunch at Royal Ascot?
Food - Picnic Style Buffet Lunch
The picnic style buffet lunch PP Travel provides for all of our Royal Ascot tours is simple yet extensive. It is a cold, picnic style buffet and there are plenty of vegetarian options. We can also provide limited gluten free and dairy free options when requested. There is also a sausage sizzle and bacon roll run provided just before heading to the races. If you have any special dietary requirements please inform us upon booking as options cannot be guaranteed on the day of you tour without prior notice. We will take any and all suggestions on board as we continually strive to improve our food offerings. Typically we provide the following types of foods although all may not be available: sausage rolls, pork pies, meatballs, mini sausages, ham, salami, chicken, pizza, quiche, salad, cheese, fruits, sandwiches (various options), nuts, crackers, cakes, slices, biscuits.
# Can we take our own food and alcohol into Royal Ascot?
In the Windsor Enclosure and Heath Enclosure Only - Picnics are allowed. However, they must be brought to the racecourse in a picnic hamper or cool bag/box. Please see alcohol allowance. Picnics must be brought in at the time of entry to the enclosure and not on re-entry. Food or drinks of any description will not be allowed in with customers coming in on a re-entry ticket.
If you are coming with a large group and your picnic and Sparkling Wine or Champagne is divided among your hampers, please all arrive together for searching or split the alcohol evenly across the party. Otherwise individuals arriving with more alcohol than food will have to dispose of the excess alcohol.
Sharp bladed kitchen knives will not be permitted.
No food, drinks or snacks are permitted to be brought into the Royal Enclosure or Queen Anne Enclosure.
Alcohol
In the Windsor Enclosure and Heath Enclosure Only - To embrace the celebratory nature of Royal Ascot, each customer (over the age of 18) is permitted to bring with them 1 bottle of sparkling wine or champagne to accompany their picnic. No other type of alcoholic drink will be permitted into the racecourse grounds and all picnics will be searched on entry. Please note that soft drinks will only be permitted into the enclosure with seals intact.
There are a substantial number of bars available inside the enclosures and a link to their menus is attached. We will even be offering bars on the move bringing drinks directly to you to enhance your day with us.
For clarity, bottles of Beer, Cider, Spirits, fortified wines and bottles of Pimm's or similar will not be allowed onto the racecourse.
Alcoholic or soft drinks are not permitted to be brought into the Royal Enclosure or Queen Anne Enclosure.
Ascot Racecourse Ltd has a behavioural management policy and to help us in providing all of our customers with an outstanding experience; no customer deemed to be intoxicated will be permitted onto the Racecourse grounds.
Furniture
During Royal Ascot we allow blankets and fold up chairs into the Windsor Enclosure and Heath Enclosure only.

Royal Ascot is one of the most important race meetings in the world and PP Travel have been successfully running tours to Royal Ascot for 30 years, making us one of the most experienced and largest operators to the event.
PP Travel has the largest exclusive picnic/pre-race party area inside the main coach park (no 10), for all to enjoy upon arriving at Royal Ascot. Situated inside the main 1 mile straight, this is our lunch/party zone for your to enjoy before crossing underneath the main straight at your leisure to enter either the Windsor Enclosure or the Queen Anne Enclosure. We are the largest operator in our field to Royal Ascot.
Lunch includes our wine and cheese tent, along with our BBQ - burgers, bacon and sausage rolls, ideal after a glass or two of bubbly. The lunch is served with an excellent choice of red or white wine which has been carefully selected for its quality. There is always plenty to go around during lunch, along with a selection of lagers, beers and cider. The PP bar at Royal Ascot is renowned for its very generous drink proportions!
Naturally entrance to Royal Ascot is included and you can make your way to the Windsor Enclosure or Queen Anne Enclosure at your leisure any time from the very social car park area, where your luncheon is served.
Windsor Enclosure (previously known as The Silver Ring)
Enjoy close-up views of the Royal Procession as it journeys past the stylish lawns of the Windsor Enclosure. This is the enclosure the horses past first on their way down the home straight when racing begins. It is here that the roar of the crowd starts in earnest, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. The atmosphere in the Windsor Enclosure is always vibrant with guests enjoying betting facilities, artisan food stalls, Champagne and Pimm's bars, and picnics on the lawn. From Thursday onwards, live music plays into the early evening.
Queen Anne Enclosure (previously known as The Grandstand Enclosure)
Grandstand Admission is a premier public enclosure and provides excellent facilities with access to the Pre-Parade Ring, Winners' Enclosure and Parade Ring. On the lawns and terraces of the Queen Anne Enclosure, you can enjoy first-rate views of the day's six races, joining the jubilant crowds as they cheers each winner home. Here you'll be at the heart of the day's activity. Close to the runners and riders in the Pre-Parade and Parade Ring and front row as the Royal Procession passes by the Grandstand.
You will be well served by our tour leaders and staff throughout the lunch as we provide you all with the best information, food, drink and services that will endeavour to make the day as enjoyable as possible for you and all your friends.
Our coaches depart Royal Ascot at 7.30pm - approximately 90 minutes after the last race normally at 6.10pm - ensuring you can make the most of your day and enjoy the bands, the party and sing-a-longs that continue well after the racing has finished.
